Lantronix Advanced IoT Technologies Contribute to Development of Two of TIME’s Best Inventions of 2020

Lantronix helped jumpstart Best Inventions Moxie Children’s Robot and Guardhat HC1 Communicator Smart Hardhat, accelerating time to market

IRVINE, Calif., Jan. 27, 2021 — Lantronix Inc. (NASDAQ: LTRX), a global provider of Software as a Service (SaaS), engineering services and intelligent hardware for the Internet of Things (IoT) and Remote Environment Management (REM), today announced that its advanced IoT technologies and engineering services contributed to the development of TIME’s Best Inventions of 2020: Moxie Children’s Robot from Embodied Inc. and the HC1 Communicator smart hardhat from Guardhat. With Lantronix’s products and engineering support, both companies were able to jumpstart design and quickly go to market.

“Congratulations to Embodied for its Moxie robot and to Guardhat for its HC1 Communicator smart hardhat being named among TIME’s Best Inventions for 2020,” said Paul Pickle, CEO of Lantronix. “Lantronix’s IoT advanced computing System on Module solutions and engineering services supported Embodied Inc. and Guardhat in creating and quickly bringing their breakthrough innovations to market.”

Embodied Inc. Brings Moxie to Life With Support From Lantronix

Created by vets of the Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood TV show as well as Pixar, Jim Henson Productions and experts in education and child development, Embodied’s Moxie is a revolutionary new companion robot. Created for children ages five to ten, Moxie was designed to help boost children’s social and emotional skills.

To make Moxie safe for at-home use by children, Embodied’s designers turned to Lantronix Engineering Services to support the development of a secure operating system with advanced privacy, security and camera technologies. Lantronix’s contributions helped Embodied bring Moxie to market faster, more affordably and with built-in security updates and patches that can be remotely updated.

Guardhat Revolutionizes the Safety of Industrial Workers With Support From Lantronix

The innovative founders of Guardhat re-envisioned the hardhat into a smart communicating device that monitors the wearer’s location in real time; allows them to make hands-free video and audio calls; and detects their proximity to hazardous materials, temperatures and moving equipment.

To incorporate sensors, a camera and microphones into the HC1 Communicator design, Guardhat’s designers turned to Lantronix for the on-device processing power of its Lantronix Open-Q™ 626 micro System on Module (μSOM) based on the Qualcomm® APQ8053-Pro System on Chip (SoC). Lantronix’s contributions helped Guardhat jumpstart development and quickly bring the HC1 Communicator to market, delivering a secure and reliable smart hardhat solution.
